Gumball 3000 Rally London 2010

It’s been 4 years since the last Gumball 3000 rally started from London Pall Mall.  May 1st 2010 see’s the wacky Gumball 3000 rally come back as they celebrate their 12th Anniversary of the race by starting from London and doing 3000 miles of driving, taking them all the way to New York.  The Gumball 3000 Race was first started in 1999 by Maximillion Cooper who invited 50 of his crazy friends to drive 3000 miles in 6 days through Europe.  Through its history of 12 races the Gumball 3000 Rally has seen some of the most amazing cars in the world and a large list of celebrities participating.  Some of the regular celebrity faces to be seen are music artist and car enthusiast JK Jamiroquai, supermodel Caprice, Gumball 3000 Veteran Alex Roy of the team Polizei.

The 2010 Gumball 3000 route will start off in London, first stop is naughty Amsterdam.  They then go on to the City of Spires, Copenhagen.  Next stop takes them to Stockholm in Sweden which is the last city in their first continent; from there they fly in the largest cargo planes in the world taking the drivers and their cars to Boston.  From Boston they will all (assuming all 120 have make it this far of course) drive to Quebec City.  After partying and speeding through Quebec City, they will arrive at the largest city in Canada, Toronto.  From there they do their last final decent of about 485 miles to New York City.

The rally is done down public roads by a selection of celebrities and wild drivers.  There will be cars, music and parties through every mile of the rally.  There’s also stop offs at race tracks where the drivers can test out their cars. In total they will cover 3000 Miles with a 120 cars in 7 days and visit 2 continents.  This is all done with some of the most luxurious, prestigious and custom cars in the world, such as the Rolls Royce Phantom, Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari Enzo, so you can’t just take your New Nissan Micra.  Although, this year they are aiming to get greener cars on to the rally, to help reduce carbon emissions.

To take part in such a race there are many entry rules.  Firstly you can’t just turn up and do this race, or apply to be a part of it.  You have to be invited by Gumball 3000.  Entry fee for a car with 2 passengers is around £30,000 and to take along a support team you have to pay an additional £15,000 per team.  Also if you want your support team to be a part of the parties and events along the way, you will have to pay a further £6,700 which covers 2 people per team.  Age wise, you have to be over 21 years of age and you must get insurance on your vehicle to cover the whole trip.  You also have to agree to have your car wrapped in the official Gumball logo and sponsors logos.

Gumball 3000 has been very clear on the fact that this is a Rally and not a race and there is no competition.  It’s all about having a wild time and a road trip that you’ll never forget.
