Tips for buying a new car

Buying yourself a new car is always exciting but for some it might also be a bit nerve-wracking and scary especially if you feel you don’t really know much about cars and you’re afraid you might get ripped off by the dealer.

The main thing to remember when buying a new car is to do your research in advance and make sure you stick to the criteria you have defined as important to you. It’s easy to get carried away during a test drive or a sales talk so make sure you’ve done proper research beforehand.

The main things to consider when buying a car is how much you’re willing to spend, how many people you need the car to be suitable for (family vs. single), whether it’s mainly for city or rural use and how eco friendly the car is.

In addition to this you might also want to consider colour as some colours are more difficult to re-sell than others. There’s also the issue with automatic vs. manual transmissions. Automatics tend to be less economical with fuel but large prestige cars tend to re-sell better if they have automatic transmission. Brand new diesel cars are usually a bit more expensive than the same car with a petrol engine. However, if you drive long distances a diesel car will be more economical in the long run as it delivers more miles per gallon.

Lastly some optional extras such as engine immobilisers and alarms can reduce your car insurance premium and might be worth considering. And for your own safety you should also look for dual airbags and traction control.

So before you go out shopping for a new Ford or a new Lexus, make sure you know what your priorities are so that you get the best out of your local car dealer and the best car for you and your needs.
