Abarth Cars is continuing to support the grass roots motorsport by announcing that it will be a title sponsor of a leading karting championship in 2011. The challenge will take place at the Teesside Autodrome, will be jointly supported by Abarth Cars UK and SG Petch, the York-based Abarth dealer. The karting challenge will be known as the SG Petch Abarth 2011 Karting Open Championship.
Abarth are supporting the series by providing an Assetto Corse 500 race car in which the Championship winner will have the opportunity to drive it in an official track day test. The motorsport arm of Fiat Group Automobiles UK will also sponsor the end of season prize-giving by providing top-notch dinner for two, as well as a chuffer driven car for the night.
The award-winning Abarth brand which was launched in the UK in July 2008 has continued to find many new fans across the UK in the form of enthusiast drivers who wish to express themselves through their choice of car. The Abarth range starts at a very reasonable price of £14,155 (OTR) for the 500 1.4 T-Jet, while the Fiat Punto Evo 1.4 MultiAir costs just £16,500 (OTR).
Ivan Gibson, head of Abarth UK, said: "Abarth and SG Petch are delighted to be involved in this exciting series as it allows us to support grass roots racing - the heart of everything we do, Teesside Autodrome is a wonderful venue which lends itself perfectly to karting and I'm sure we can expect a fine season of racing there."
